Veep arrives in Addis Ababa for the AU Summit

The Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, Khumbo Kachale has arrived Wednesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend to the 22nd Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU). The Vice President arrived at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, at around 12.00 noon.

The Vice President who is representing State President Dr Joyce Banda will attend the 22nd Session of the Assembly of the AU which is scheduled to commence Thursday 30 January 2014 to Friday 31st January 2014 in the Plenary Hall of the New AU Conference Center.

According to an internet source, the Heads of State and Government will launch the year 2014 as the Year of Agriculture and Food Security, marking the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).

On top of that, the leaders will consider a report of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) on its activities and the state of peace and security in Africa among others.

Kachale was welcomed at the airport by the Deputy Ambassador for Malawi at the AU, Doreen Kapanga, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abel Kayembe and the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, George Mkondiwa among others.
