Mayawo said the sweeping exercise helps the society as it minimizes the rate at which crimes are committed during the cerebrations adding that it also brings other dangerous criminals before the law.
The police publicist also described the exercise as successful as it led to the arrest of other notorious criminals who will appear before court soon.
He, however, could not disclose names of the criminals and cases they are facing for fear of jeopardising police investigation.
Mayawo said police will continue conducting similar exercises even on Christmas Eve to ensure security and safety to the people.
He cautioned people against unnecessary movement during the night as this may expose them to thugs and police arrest for questioning.
