BREAKING NEWS, GERMANY AND EUROPEAN UNION DENY WITHOLDING AID FROM MALAWI

The representatives of the European Union in Malawi have denied recent media reports that aid has been cut from Malawi. The EU officials and Germany Ambassador today in Lilongwe told Malawi government officials that the European Union is totally behind the leadership of Dr Joyce Banda and her efforts to root out corruption in Malawi therefore it has never at any point issued a statement to signify that aid has been cut from the Southern African nation. The EU has called on all media practitioners in Malawi to exercise responsible reporting of events than spreading unfounded speculations

This week, Malawi’s major newspapers namely the Nation and the Daily Times including online publications reported that Germany and the European Union have cut aid from Malawi. However in an interview with Banthu Times, officials from both the Malawi government, EU as well as Germany have denied this being the case.
” We can assure you these reports are untrue and purely based on speculation, we are closely working with Malawi government to promote the people’s social and economic developments.” Said officials

Malawi suffered aid cuts in 2010/2011 DPP rule of Bingu Wa Muntharika due to the worsening of human rights record however aid resumed following the confidence of the international community in the leadership of Dr Joyce Banda.
